Dr. Ryan Harrell is fellowship trained and specializes in minimally invasive surgery including advanced shoulder, hip and knee arthroscopy; ligament and cartilage reconstruction, joint replacements of the shoulder and knee, meniscus repair/transplantation, as well as general orthopaedics and trauma care. Dr. Harrell’s favorite part about being an orthopaedic surgeon is the opportunity to work with patients of all age groups and watch them get back to their physical health after surgery. Born and raised in Hampton Roads, Dr. Harrell is excited to provide experienced orthopaedic care to his community.
Dr. Mark Kerner is board certified with more than 30 years of experience in the medical field. Dr. Kerner specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery, motion preserving surgery and disc replacement. He attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and completed his orthopaedic training there as well. Dr. Kerner takes pride in evaluating and helping determine solutions to problems that have interrupted someone’s life, as he knows spine issues can affect work, play, relationships, and retirement plans. He works with his patients to accurately diagnose a problem and map out a treatment plan, whether that is non-operative conservative care or the most complex surgery.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Harrell and Dr. Kerner to our practice,” says John Strother, Practice Administrator, HROSM. “Their experience and knowledge will benefit not only our practice but most importantly: our patients.” Dr. Harrell is now accepting new patients in the Newport News office, and Dr. Kerner is accepting new patient appointments in the Newport News and Southside offices. They will begin practicing at HROSM on Monday, January 4, 2021.
